Watercolors
Most of my watercolors are created on hot press 140# paper but I also love experimenting with this very versatile medium.
One of my watercolor series' reflect a different aspect of time. I call these pieces the Absentee Portrait Series. In these paintings a person is depicted not by their image but by the items they have left behind. These people have just exited the scene where they were either working or playing. These are portraits defined by objects not images so they could be anyone that fits the collection and theme. I have traveled back in time for some of them as the titles reflect. It takes quite a bit of research for the historic ones, collecting and arranging the items into a composition before I ever start to paint.
I am excited to try out some new watercolor products. I use watercolor pencils. My favorite is Koh-i-noor Mondeluz pencils, great quality at a good price. I have tried modelling paste for watercolor and that was great. One product that was NOT great is liquid paper for watercolor paper. I have never been able to keep it from lifting back up into the next layer of paint leaving the new paint milky. I do still use the product but only for final white highlights. Pebeo makes a masking fluid that I love. It is tinted a light neutral gray and is fluid enough to allow for some exciting techniques.
